A 12-months Research Engineer (IR), Science Program Manager position is available at the Station Biologique de Roscoff (SBR, CNRS/UPMC, France; http://www.sb-roscoff.fr/) to play a central role in the European and International projects BioMarKs and TARA-oceans, respectively (http://www.biomarks.eu/; http://oceans.taraexpeditions.org/). The candidate will work in close collaboration with Dr. Colomban de Vargas, from the team EPPO (http://www.sb-roscoff.fr/Phyto/), who is main scientific coordinator of both research projects. He/She will help managing the administrative, financial, but also scientific work. Both programs are multi-teams, integrative effort toward an ecosystemic understanding of marine plankton  biodiversity using high-throughput sequencing and imaging technologies, integrated into an ecological framework.

Job description – specific tasks:

- management of the BioMarKs (EU BiodivErsA) and POSEIDON (ANR TARA-oceans) projects: maintain an efficient communication flux between partners, follow deliverables, websites management, financial and scientific reporting.

- Database and samples management (with help of local IT team).

- Distribution and dissemination of the consortium activities to stakeholders and end-users, including general public

- Project financial management (manpower, labwork, material; with help of team secretariat).

- Participation and representation of the projects in scientific and/or logistics meetings

Requested qualifications / Knowledge / Experience

A strong biological scientific background is mandatory, with, if possible, past experience in molecular ecology and marine biodiversity. Experience in project development, planning, implementation and management. Participation to one or several large-scale collaborative projects related to marine ecology desirable. Fluency in oral and written English required, and if possible French. Excellent organizational and prioritizing capacities, effective problem solving skills, communication skills and excellent team spirit. No fear for multitasking!

Contract period and location

September 2011, for 1 year – possibilities of work contract extension

This position will be based in Roscoff (CNRS- Station Biologique de Roscoff), France.

Annual gross salary: 2500 euros/months.
